Understanding Soil Health: Preparing Your Farm for Transplanting

Before transplanting your healthy, premium grafted plants from Karjee Farms, it is vital to prepare their permanent home. The success of grafted technology depends heavily on soil physical structure, organic matter content, and aeration.

Step 1: Soil Testing

Knowing your soil's pH and nutrient levels saves you money and boosts crop success. Vegetables thrive in a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0. If your soil is too acidic, apply agricultural lime; if too alkaline, apply gypsum or organic sulphur.

Step 2: Incorporate Deep Tillage

Tilling down to 30-40 cm loosens hardpan soil layers, allowing the massive root system of grafted plants to grow deep and seek moisture. Deep plowing also exposes soil-borne pests to natural solarization.

Step 3: Add Abundant Organic Matter

Apply well-decomposed Farmyard Manure (FYM) or vermicompost at least 15-20 days before transplanting. Organic matter improves soil water-holding capacity, nutrient exchange rates, and stimulates beneficial soil microbes.

Step 4: Raised Bed & Drip Setup

For optimal drainage and root aeration, construct raised beds (approx. 1 meter wide and 30 cm high). Run drip lines along the beds and cover with silver-black mulch sheets. Mulching prevents weed growth, regulates root zone temperature, and saves up to 50% water.
